Q: Is there a federal tax credit for an EV or a home charger in 2026?

No. The IRS says the new clean vehicle credit (30D) and the used one (25E) are not allowed for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, and the charger credit (30C) is not allowed for property placed in service after June 30, 2026. A car counts as acquired once a written binding contract is signed and a payment, even a small down payment or a trade-in, has been made.

If you signed and paid before October 1, 2025, the IRS says you can still claim the credit when you take delivery, even after that date.
